Scandinavian Prehistoric Costume

By Ulla Mannering
This research programme investigates the Danish collections of textile and skin objects dated to the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages including the Viking Age and the Early Medieval period. Selected materials from these periods are investigated from a technological, as well as a design and clothing perspective. Research results and methods developed in earlier CTR research programmes on Danish Bronze (TECC) and Early Iron Age (DTC) skin and textile collections will be applied and further developed. The majority of the selected objects belong to the collections of the National Museum of Denmark, but textiles and skin objects from other Danish museums may also be included.
