Textile and Clothing
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to this volume on ‘Textile and Clothing’ – the first in a new series of books produced by UNESCO that focuses on the peoples, cultures and histories of the Silk Roads. It is entirely appropriate that the first volume should be concerned with textiles and fabrics, after all, silk gave its name to the networks of routes, connections and exchanges that not only linked different parts of Asia but also fanned out across the world, helping to facilitate an exchange of goods and ideas that over time was truly global in nature.
