Dr. Pernilla Rasmussen
Dr. Pernilla Rasmussen is a PhD and independent researcher.
She holds a PhD in Textile studies from Uppsala University, Sweden (2010). The Title of her thesis was Skräddaren, sömmerskan och modet. Arbetsmetoder och arbetsdelning i tillverkningen av kvinnlig dräkt 1770-1830. [The Tailor, the Seamstress and Fashion. Working Methods and Division of Labour in the Manufacture of Female Dress, 1770–1830.]
At present she works at the Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences, Lund University with the establishing of fashion studies as a discipline at the university and with the planning of a new BA program within this field. She is also consultant to Textilmuseet in Borås and invited lecturer at the universities of Uppsala, Stockholm, Lund and Borås. She has curated a number of exhibitions in the fields of fashion and dress history, fashion and textile design. She is a member of the board in the ICOM Costume Committee, and co-author (with Britta Hammar) of Kvinnligt mode under två sekel, 2001(Female fashion during two centuries) and Underkläder. En kulturhistoria, 2008 (Underclothes. A cultural history).
In the project she will focus on the relation between manufacturing techniques, organisation of the tailors and seamstresses crafts and fashion.
